Subjam – the Electrified Quartet – is presenting their new Album “a paradigmatic act of representation“. Their last international released album “the return of urban organic groove music” was knighted with positive reviews. The new material is their very own – it sounds dynamically analog and warm and has been jammed and produced in their own studio. A dense network of sounds that come together, overlap, complement each other in a unique way and as compact as they are complex be vibrated for the listener in a variety of ways. While listening to the seven tracks (on CD with bonus track) the common features are quickly clear: the spark of jazz – the spontaneous power of the improvisational collective, that undoubtedly has its roots in the jazz rock era of the seventies. But the path of the sounds put in motion is also leading directly into the nineties, characterized by Fusion, Funk and neo-progressive Rock.
Establishing himself as a renowned artist in the legendary 1990s Tom Weyer aka Commander Tom is back with a 2019 remix package of his classic ‘Are Am Eye’. Speaking of nostalgia, the first remix comes from no less than Binary Finary who became superstars themselves with their ‘1998’ anthem. John Asked, renowned for his tough edged Tech-Trance sound is also part of the roster. With him and his unparalleled instinct for the right knack it was obvious that the result would be nothing but an amazing piece of trance music.Deep, tech and progressive house experts Paul Hamilton & Carl MWA look back on over twenty years in the music business. What came out is a subtle and highly sophisticated transformation into the 21st century. Last but not least we won Pablo Bolivar to set hands on the title. Organic sounds, embedded in an atmospheric soundscape, seasoned with a massive dose of groove, that’s what you get when you ask Pablo to take over and boy did he deliver. We couldn’t be happier with the result!
«Hôtel Costes presents…» is a collection of exclusive music recorded at Studio HC, the hotel studio. The second maxi, STUDIO HC #02 by Midiminuit is a modern trip where classical and jazz music meet modular synths. Four tracks as a teaser of their upcoming album. MidiMinuit is a collaborative project between pianist Julien Quentin, bass player Yonatan Levi and electronic musicians Cesar Merveille & Adrien de Maublanc.
Four experts in their respective fields are harmoniously combining their music creating a new entity. From the very first recording sessions in a ephemeral studio in Berlin, a set of rules has been made, the first one being working from 12pm to 12am, which gave birth to the name ‘MidiMinuit’, meaning “midday midnight”. The result of this unique and unusual formation is an elegant and minimalistic constellation where space is given to let the music breathe. All the tracks on this first album were improvised, catching the essence and the fragility of the original jams.
Ken Hayakawa & T Raum – Spanish Fly EP (Stripped Down Records)
Incl. Gorge Remix
Opener ‘Spanish Fly’ is characterized by a stringed instrumental lead that is exotic and intoxicating. The beats below are deep and rubbery, and the whole thing makes for a unique cut that leaves a real mark. Then it’s the excellent ‘Spirit Base’, which is a spine-tingling vocal affair with smooth, bouncy drums and airy vocal whispers that cast a majestic spell. The remix comes from Gorge, a long time tech titan from Germany who established the renowned Mannheim sound and co-runs the 8bit Records label. His version is built on silky hi hats and underlapping drums that sweep you up and keep you in the smooth grooves for the duration. Last of all is ‘Follow Me’, a perfectly atmospheric and cinematic track that feels like a deep space exploration, with cosmic winds, journeying drums and deft alien lifeforms in the synths.
