Ken Hayakawa & T Raum – Spanish Fly EP (Stripped Down Records)
Incl. Gorge Remix
Opener ‘Spanish Fly’ is characterized by a stringed instrumental lead that is exotic and intoxicating. The beats below are deep and rubbery, and the whole thing makes for a unique cut that leaves a real mark. Then it’s the excellent ‘Spirit Base’, which is a spine-tingling vocal affair with smooth, bouncy drums and airy vocal whispers that cast a majestic spell. The remix comes from Gorge, a long time tech titan from Germany who established the renowned Mannheim sound and co-runs the 8bit Records label. His version is built on silky hi hats and underlapping drums that sweep you up and keep you in the smooth grooves for the duration. Last of all is ‘Follow Me’, a perfectly atmospheric and cinematic track that feels like a deep space exploration, with cosmic winds, journeying drums and deft alien lifeforms in the synths.
M.A. – The Cannonball Run EP (Frieda Musik)
Incl. Remixes by Guido Schneider & Jakob Seidensticker
Our brother M.A., family member for many years, found the way to the studio and he is very talented. He just did an EP on Microdrive and another one on Enough!. After doing 2 remixes for ‘Bardo & Salazar’ on our label he is finally back on Frieda Musik with his own EP. ‘Camaro’, ‘Pontiac’ and ‘Jericho’, 3 groovy tracks with a nice drive. 2 additional remixes come from Jakob Seidensticker and Guido Schneider.
Stripped Down hits a super sixth release with the hugely prolific Basti Grub at the helm. Over more than a decade this German producer has turned out an always evolving and vast amount of EPs and LPs. Using a range of different instruments and modular synths he cooks up inventive minimal tracks that are dance floor focused but packed with new ideas. First up here is solo track ‘Would Be An Angel’ which has a zoned out quality thanks to the harmonic bell sounds and stripped back rhythms. Enchanting vocals are hypnotic and the various breakdowns build the tension, only for things to roll on again and surely get huge reactions in the clubs. ‘Amelie’ is the second fantastic offering and finds Grub link with DJ Slowhand, who has been resident at Tanzhaus West FFM since 2011. Together they cook up a sparse techno track that takes you on a journey to the heavens, with lush chords, choral vocals and synth orchestration all exuding clean, crisp and classy feelings of subtle euphoria.
Bardo & Salazar’s latest EP reaches you at exactly the right time in the right place: warmth and summer dreams as far as you can hear. The first hike takes you fare above the valleys, high into the Swiss Alps, where legends and myths reside and magical Murgsee reflects the image of the gods as they listen to the two Zurich lads. Here, smitten by the magic, even the „Honey“ starts to „Hula“. Is it „Le Piff“ rising from the pipe and dancing in smoke arabesques across the mountain ridges? It doesn’t matter. And luckily the two have brought along their dear friend M.A., our newest family member… refining „Le Piff“ in his „Piff Paff Puff“ remix and transforming it, with „Spliff“, into a hypnotic after slam…
Let’s bet honest: unfortunately many artists and labels have thrown so many best of albums on the market over the years that the original idea behing it suffered a lot. We, the FCKNG SERIOUS family have had an incredible year with countless shows and countless memories hat cannot be put into accurate words. We’re FCKNG SERIOUS and so not done yet. Let’s take off for the next round.
Calling an EP “Devil” although it will most certainly conjure a smile on the face of any electronic music enthusiast might come as a surprise, or even cause confusion. But let’s be fucking serious, when Boris Brejcha picked this title, he had probably no evil thoughts in mind but was rather daydreaming of one of his many shows that are known to turn any club into a diabolically hot sweat lodge due to the energetic atmosphere and ecstatic crows. So in the end you could arque that the title of his new EP seems long overdue. Meet the “Devil” and the humble man behind the EP: meet Boris Brejcha.
ALREADY #1 BEATPORT ALBUMS ALLOVER!
For our first release of 2018 and our 11th year in the game, we kick off proceedings with Jicheal Mackson. The highly in demand producer and live artist drops another forward thinking offering on our imprint SERIALISM.
You Record are proud to present their eleventh release, the ‘Kant Straße’ EP by S Katz aka Katsuhiko. From 2016 – 2017 he was granted the opportunity to produce multiple tracks at a studio on KantStraße in Berlin using hardware supplied by Dandy Jack, with whom the space is shared, and his dear friend Mathew Jonson. Opening track is a groove-driven roller with robotic glitches talking a language of their own. ‘Hats and Steps’ is a versatile dancefloor cut replete with subtle details and layered rhythms. ‘Forest In Me’ takes a trippy journey to the afterhours with immersive field recordings and entrancing blips. Closing the EP is ‘You Are In The Display’, a truly weird vocoder-led track with swung percussion and a shuffling bass melody. This EP serves as a prologue to S Katz’s forthcoming album.
Leading from Italy It’s Vanni Bacco aka Reclame presenting his debut ep “Profumo Pungente“ on Serialism. Little is known from this talented artist but the just few releases under his belt and his discerning personality have attracted Cesare’s attention after a tip from a Russian family member and A&R Anushka. The entire record is a splendid, very unique minimal play. The 5 tunes of the EP are produced diligently mixing intricate click-clacking grooves that makes a solid base to deep and soulful under melodies. The result is a completely harmonic general feeling, a healthy mix of micro emotions drawn to bring our mind to a trip but to keep the will to dance all the way… our favourite.
